About

By Steve Gordon

The author

I have been a fan of Capcom’s 1990s games for as long as they have existed. Back then I imported the latest releases on the Sega Saturn, because that was the closest I could get to the arcade experience at home.

I bought my first arcade cabinet in 1998, a Final Fight, off eBay for $125. It was two hours away, and I had to bring my dad along to pick it up. I have been collecting ever since and now have every CPS-2 game. The English release of Mega Man: The Power Battle took the longest to track down, because the US version only ever had a location test and was never a full release. I am still looking for an English Puzz Loop. Final Fight still has a special place in my heart.

How the project started

In 2018 I wondered whether the games inside Capcom’s PS2 anthologies could be pulled out and run on real arcade hardware. Street Fighter Zero 2 Dash, which never had an arcade release, was the one I wanted most. I asked about it on Arcade Projects, and nobody had an answer.

I came back to it in 2020 and started to learn what was on those discs: the arcade games themselves with Capcom’s extras built in, hidden options for choosing between versions, and a lot of re-recorded music. Then I came back again this summer. Some of the console versions, such as Hyper Street Fighter Alpha, were more than arcade hardware could carry, but Zero 2 Dash fit. It became Street Fighter Alpha 2 Gold, a native arcade game in four regional versions, and the rest of this site grew around it.

This site

The aim is the definitive experience of each game. That means borrowing the features from Capcom’s various ports while remaining faithful to their approach, and retranslating wherever they cut corners.

Everything here is free and runs against your own copy of the game. No game data is hosted on this site; see Legal & disclaimers.
