About this patch
Strider EX brings the PC Engine CD version’s opening, mission briefings, boss dialogue and extended ending to the arcade game, alongside its additional desert stage. Cutscenes and boss portraits retain their original pixel width.
USA and Japanese builds include a hidden stage select, revised stage transitions and corrections to desert ledges, poles and camera movement. The USA build includes English boss voices through the original arcade sound hardware, with a new native FM score during the cinematics.
On MiSTer, the CPS+ Arrange launchers add the PC Engine soundtrack and voiced cinematics, with English and Japanese voice options and new full-quality English boss recordings. The required Strider EX CPS+ core is included.
Supply your own arcade ROMs, PC Engine CD, System Card BIOS and X68000 game disks. It runs in HBMAME and on MiSTer; stock MAME is used only to reconstruct the source scenes. This is a release candidate.

Release history
rc1 (2026-10-27)
- First release candidate of Strider EX for CPS-1, with the PC Engine CD scenes, extra desert stage, native audio and optional CPS+ soundtrack.
Related projects
- CPS+, CPS+ plays the arranged soundtrack and voiced scenes on MiSTer
Notes
- All MiSTer launchers require the included Strider EX CPS+ core for the expanded graphics mapper. Its separate filename preserves an installed generic CPS+ core.
- HBMAME uses native audio. Stock MAME does not run the enhanced arcade sets.
- This is an unofficial fan project, unaffiliated with Capcom or NEC. Original game media is not included.
